L4VXA2 new mobo HELP ME PLEASE!

Ok first of all when i tryed install win98 or winxp it would freeze most of the time and it woould give me so many error i think i saw about 10 different error screens. I think i fixed that by flashing the BIOS from Award BIOS 1.1D to 1.1b and it "seemed" to fix it. Then when i tryed installed the windows again it would restart at different times i wouldnt know when it would restart it jsut would surprize me. I tried disableing L1 and L2 cacheing and it would install windows perfect but when i enable L1 and L2 cacheing it wont give me more errors and boot problems.

One stick of ram 512ram DDR PC2700 Double Data Rate
Geforce4 Mx 64mb Video Card
20Gb Hard Drive

Well, I hate to say this, but the only time a computer randomly rebooted on me like this was when the cpu was takin' a dump!!

That said, I'll start with the easiest first..........

#1.) Make sure your cpu bus speed and RAM speed are set appropriately........(I can't remember if the L4VXA2 auto-detect *completely* or not, so double-check in the setup screen)

#2.) Next, I'd try another piece of RAM if you've got any layin' around.

#3.) Cmos battery *could* give this if it's a bad battery (I know it sounds weird but I had this happen to a build recently) and I didn't find it 'til I noticed that because the battery was bad it was resetting the cmos thus resetting the CPU and RAM speeds in the setup menu

After that, I'd more than likely suspect it could be a board problem or cpu problem. Hopefully the latter is not the case and the above will give you some angles to attack 'til somebody with another insight may throw some other possibilities here. Good luck!

I just repaired a computer that would not let me install any OS. it would halt or freeze at different points of the instalation. First I thought it was the HD, I zeroed that and reformatted and still no good, I tried alot of things. I then replaced the ram and all is good, complete install.

I had checked the ram with various on board tests running in Dos and Linux and it showed that it was good, but for some reason it did not like that sys, so new ram did the trick. Could be an option.
