I have been dealing with this for 5 days now. I connect to my inernet via Dial-up and I can get my start page and that is it. If I try to go anywhere else It can't communicate ,can't find server or DNS Error. I have check and changed DNS Numbers. Deleted cookie files checked and changed internet connection speeds for my modem and I have taken Earthlink.Total access out and now I go through Internet Explorer I can receive E-mail some of the time but most of the time I get can not connect to server. HELP!!!

Welcome to the forum!

I hate to punk out on this answer but....if you are paying for dialup....the BEST thing to do is contact the help line.....they deal with the same questions over and over so they usually can get it going in like 3 minutes.

I agree with John on that.

It sounds like a DNS configuration problem and they do deal with that all the time. A friend of mine used to work at an ISP and said that was the #1 call he dealt with.

you know, I wish MS would change that stupid page. 99% of the time it has nothing to do with DNS, but people see it and get fixated. A different error page depending on the error would be quite nice and eliminate some basic troubleshooting.

I am so sick of dealing with people who get paid to know stuff and they don't. Like I said I have call and called and now I need some help from normal people. I'm still having the same problems and am getting kind-da nuts!

I know how frustrating that can be. getting the right person on the phone is a hit and miss situation. i have spent hrs on the phone trying to help people get connected. Most of the time the problem is password related which usually takes about a day for new or corrected passwords to go into effect.
The best I can say is Good Luck, if the person you get on the phone sounds like he or she is reading off a card just hang up and call again till you get someone that knows what they are talking about.

if you open a command prompt can you ping anything?

type something like "ping www.google.com" and press enter
no quotes of course

might also want to try "ipconfig /all"
post here what you get from that, perhaps you're not getting an IP from the ISP or the gateways are messed up. Is this an isp where you simply dial in with username and password or does it have a gay program to go along with it (kinda AOL style).

--edit---
just noticed where you said it was earthlink.
