nForce2 good or bad?

I have owned two nForce2 motherboard and have been disappointed in both.

I've heard a lot of good things, and a lot of bad things.

What's your opinion on NVIDIA chipsets?

were they different boards? perhaps it was just a bad brand of board. i've not had any problems with my Abit NF7-S.

Well obviously they are the best out there and have been for a while.....except for that one Asus board...which I have seen in like 97 million threads with people having issues.

the first one i had was an abit nf7-s and it got fried due to a bad power supply, but i was also having problems getting a kernel too boot on the chipset. 2.4 wouldnt boot and neither would 2.2. then i got a gigabyte ga-7n400 pro2 which turned out to have the same problems.

ive concluded that nforce2 is only for windows, and that all linux users should stick to via or sis chipsets.

asus a7n8x deluxe here, no problems more than 6 months running this machine...

Using Mandrake linux 9.2 and used 9.1, use any distro with 2.4.22 kernel to avoid some issues it had with linux...

a7n8x dlx here too. I'm sure the board is fine. The reason we see so many threads is usually one of two reasons:

1.) Inexperienced builder or something the builder has overlooked

2. When you sell more than any other maker, you're statstically going to have more problems.

I gotta disagree slightly....unless like they are selling 100 to 1 better than other makers....cuz I have seen toooooooooooooo many help threads with that board.....very much like we did when the k7s5a was in its heyday....(or that one epox board along with the sb live card, lol)

I will admit...I am a wimp after I see that many help threads with one thing in common, lol....let Mel Gibson be braveheart, I will be scaredheart and order a different one!
