My server has disabled the cfdirectory tag - can anyone help me with a workaround for this?

It shouldnt, have you tried reinstalling?

what I mean is - the people who own the machine upon which the website that I wish to use the tag will not allow the use of it for security reasons.

Hm, I think your best solution will be to change servers. I have never heard of a work around that was reliable.

In any case Deliberately attempting an endrun around someones security measures on their server is an assured way of losing access everything you have on the server.
