Surround sound quit - only front speakers

This is strange.

When I used to pop in a CD or play a mp3 I would get sound from both the front and rear speakers.

Now I only get the front speakers.

SB 5.1 BTW. Ran the speaker test module and they all work when tested.

Tried two different players (MusicMatch and Creative Player) and still no go.

I'm stumped.

I need some info on your card. Is it retail or OEM? What I can suggest in the meantime is to fiddle with the advanced settings on the SC.

Ditch MUSICMATCH. ICK. Get Winamp 2.91 and the MAD decoder.

It's retail and I've been fiddling with every setting I can find.

My son has the same card and his is working fine.

Mine stopped and I have no idea when it happened.

Don't listen to music all that much but just noticed it wasn't working the other day.

May uninstall Musicmatch ........ may have happened when I upgraded to 8.2.

happened to me some days ago, I was getting only front speakers audio and the test all was working......

In windows go to

start ---> Control Panel ----> Sounds choose speakers and find 5.1 speakers....

that did the trick... when i updated windows media player it set automatically to two speakers instead of the 5.1... weird but happened...
