Power Supplies

Recently got new PC:
Gigabyte GA-K8NNXP nForce3 150 chipset Motherboard with AMD 64 bit 3200+ CPU, 1GB OCZ memory 3 IBM IDE HD's, DVD ROM, Sony DVD writer.

Works great. The problems seems to be with PSU’s

First – “Aluminium” 550w. Failed after couple weeks, possible connected with switching on/off at mains.

Second – Hiper 520w. This one is weird! It will not fire up using the push button unless you leave the rocker switch on the PSU on and switch on/off at the wall socket. It then works fine. It does not do this on another PC - EPOX /AMD 2000XP. However, the slave HD (IBM 60GB) failed on this latter PC yesterday with this PSU and I can not help but wonder if the Hiper is implicated. The HDD led was on all the time when I noticed the problem. The HD then worked when I changed to a 300w PSU but then failed permanently.

Third – In view of above got Antec truepower 550w for the new PC. The PC shuts down on XP-SP1 pro OS but then the HD indicator LED lights and it starts up again. It only does this after the PC has been on for say 30 minutes use. It shuts down OK before this time. The PC temperature is not hot - in fact the CPU temp is typ. only 31- 34 degree C.

The Antec PSU does not do this on the other PC.

A complete re-format and OS install has been tried. Voltages appears on spec.

Any ideas please?

What are your power settings? check in Control panel-power there should be a power button setting somewhere. You may also want to check in BIOS

From memory, the BIOS is set to soft on/off power. The options are - instant and soft only. I will check again.
The OS, I think is set to no power savings possibly screen saver ii on after 15 mins. I will check tonight - thanks

PSU is set to 110v? Not 220? And are you getting good power at outlet?
