Kids Folder, File & Storage Management

Hello Everyone,

I am currently beginning the task of getting all my assorted graphics, downloads, mp3, documents and various files finally sorted and filed. I am doing this to start backing it all up to DVD's.

My question is what software would allow the ability to rapidly move files and/or folders? I am looking for something like a sendto on steriods.

Any and all suggestions tips ect would be appreciated greatly.

Thanks

No magical program that I know of.

You could open 2 Windows Explorer windows for easy drag and drop. Just resize them to fit vertically beside one another on your screen.

Cheers!

You can modify the locations in the "send to" menu.

Do this:

Adding Send To Locations via Windows Explorer
Click [Start] [All Programs] [Windows Explorer].
Navigate to the drive where Windows XP is installed.
Expand the Documents and Settings folder.
Expand the folder of the User whose Send To menu will be modified.
Expand the Send To folder.
(If the Send To folder isn't visible, click [Tools] [Folder Options] [View] tab and check [Show Hidden Files and Folders])
Right click any item you want to add, drag and drop it on the Send To folder and click [Create Shortcuts Here].

Remember; all you are doing is creating shortcuts to be added to the Send To folder. If a shortcut already exists, rather than create a new one simply copy the existing shortcut to the Send To folder. Once you've set up all the shortcuts you want, you can copy them from the Send To folder and paste them into a different users Send To folder. It saves a lot of time.

I like the suggestions ...

However the problem is that I dont want to create copies. Which is the case using the methods perviously discussed. I want to move the files to the new locations.

Any Ideas?

Beemers method will move them if you right click when dragging and select move instead of copy.

For those who are interested. I have found the following tool that will assist with the moving/sorting of a large bulk of the data I have to go through. It has a drag an drop interface and is FREE!

By creating a few rules it will sort/copy/move/delete mass amounts of files...

normally moving files from folder to another never copies. only in some circumstances does it do that, and you can tell it will copy when there is a plus by the pointer icon.
