okay, at ati.com they have RPMs for the radeon 9600pro.

how do i use these in debian?

There are a few ways to do this. However, you could try the Alien package converter.

Note that it isnt always reliable, because obviously there are some things that just cannot be converted.

I'd be curious to know if it worked anyway

ill try it and post back in a few weeks. im still awaiting my new motherboard in the mail and havent finished building the computer yet. thanks for the help
