SMC Barricade Router Problem

I'm seeing a a few quirks with my SMC Barricade Router (SMC7004FW). About six months ago it started acting up. I would just stop. The lights would be on, but I couldn't get any connections in or out. No DHCP. Nothing. I would have to go down, unplug it, wait a few seconds, plug it back in and then it would work again. At its worst, it would work for about 10 - 15 minutes, then die again. I'd reboot it, and it would work again for 15 minutes. It went on like this for a few days.

SMC tech support was no help ("Maybe you should put it on a UPS" -- which I did). Eventually, the problem just went away on its own.....until yesterday. Same exact thing (with the UPS). Gave me fits for about 3 hours, then just started working again. Tonight the same thing.

I'm up to snuff on the latest Firmware, but still getting problems. I'm just about to toss the damned thing and buy a Linksys.

Has anyone else seen this with their SMC Router? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Well, it is in a cabinet, so I guess it could get hot. I can't imagine why it would be hot for a few hours out of the year, and not the rest, however.

...or why just rebooting it would make a difference. It's not going to cool off too much in the 10 seconds it's off.

Still, it's an interesting idea. Thanks John.

Any others?
