Question about an e-mail

I just recieved a file from my aunt, it's a picture file and there is a highlighted box at the top that says... "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments... what does that mean?

means you have IE6 and OE6 and by default it wont let you open attachments.

Its a good safety device.

You can change it by clicking, in OE, "tools..options..security" then unchecking "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened blah blah"

Usually if I trust the source, I uncheck it...open the attachment...then I recheck it..for safety sake.

after you uncheck it you may have to close that email then re-open it to open the attachment.

I could be wrong, but Outlook (or Express) shouldn't block an attachment that's just a picture. Are you sure it's not something like Grandma.jpg.exe or Grandma.jpg.vbs??? That's a common trick to fool people into opening up a virus....

yes it could very well be a virus that either someone sent pretending to be his aunt (not very likely) or his aunt has gotten a virus that spreads by sending emails like this.

That's what I was thinking...I've never had to uncheck any options to allow pictures through. Hmmm...can you post up a screenshot of the attachment?

I am under the impression it does block pics...maybe you guys have it set to let everything thru.

I have a few emails in my inbox...one with a .gif attached and one with a .png image file...both got blocked.

My mother's machine blocked images as well. Changed the attachment setting and no problems.

it's kinda hard to set it to block certain things in OE since there is only one setting for it and that's on or off. outlook seems to have just a setting for high or no attachment security.

I changed the attachments settings, and it seems to be working fine. Just some minor details I overlooked when setting it up.
