Well, there will be a name change. The core is called R400. It will make the 9800 XT look like last weeks soggy hamburger.

The original R400 project was supposedly canned due to fear of not competing with the NV40.

R420 should be near the silicon stage, if not already in silicon. The core will enter mass produce this quarter. According to my info, it should be a TSMC 130nm low-k based 160M transistor graphics acceletor supporting AGP8X and GDDR3 memory.

R423 will debut shortly after R420 (3-6 months) with support for the PCI Express architecture. Core revisions are rumored, though I have no concrete information at this time.

GDDR3 memory

NOOOOOOOOOOOO. Say it aint so. First off $ and I dont even think its fully JDEC spec'd yet..(read erata can be severe at set mhz) Secondly poor performance yet out of it. If its like ddr2 that is. THe radeon 9800 256mb comes with ddr2. Waist really. As its increased latency counters ALmost all gains from higher mhz (bandwidth). Its like the rdram hinderences but its still parallel mem. LOL. They need to get ddr2 working right and tweak the latency issue before going onto the next step. Geeees its all marketing these days. Garunteed they will offer it with other SGram types aswell for the reason of $ vs. performance ratio. Maybe even a worthy ddr2 setup I hope. Thats what they should concentraite on now.

GREAT!!! Just when i am getting ready to buy my 9600XT, ATI will have an all new core out. I was getting all excited that i would be close to the cutting edge in graphics technology.

Oh well. The 9600XT will be just fine for me and i know i wont be disapointed with it.
