I need a good g card that will run on a asus nforce2 ultra 400 chipest motherboard. I am going to get a 2800+ amd or 300+ depending on what my buget is. I can go about 75$ over but i would like to keep it around 750$. I'm open to anything and everything. I'm also a pretty hardcore gamer so i need a pretty strong g card. thanx

you needing case and all? Are you saying you already have an asus board or have you settled on an Asus nf2 board?

i'd suggest the Abit NF7-S since it's like $100 as an alternative.

are we talking just the tower or monitor/operating system and all? If you need a monitor/etc, and you're a hardcore gamer Id just suggest saving your money up for a bit longer.

AMD 2800+ or there abouts is prolly good enough
Never used an Abit board b4 but I've heard pretty good things.

For a graphics card check out a radeon 9600 XT or the nvidia FX 5900 non-ultra (which are sopposed to overclock quite well, so you might be able to get 5900 ultra speeds).

Not exactly adding this all up, but Id go for some Geil 512mb pc3200 RAM for around 80 dollars, go for 2x512 if you can afford it.... corsair XMS is better but its like 50-60% more money (I think its highly over priced)

80GB or 120GB hard drive from western digital (special edition).

48x CD-RW
16x DVD-rom

Maybe go with the Biostar M7NCD. Costs about $53.00 at newegg. Runs 266/333/400Mhz FSB. Doesn't have the dual NIC, SATA, or soundstorm sound. A really solid and stable board though. Get the XP2500+ instead of theXP2800+ or XP3000+. Not worth the extra money. Make sure to get a better aftermarket CPU cooler. I'd reccomend the Vantec AeroFlow TMD cooler which runs about $25.00-30.00 but is quiet and one of the best coolers there is. FX 5700 Ultra or 9600 Pro is your best bet for graphics within your budget. I'm partial to Mushkin RAM myself. Buying 2 sticks-either 2-256MB or 2-512MB- will allow you to take advantage of the nForce2 motherboards dual channel feature. Aspire makes decent cases with adequete 350 watt power supplies that should meet all of your needs. Here's a rundown using newegg for the parts:

AMD XP2500+ OEM CPU- $85.00
Vantec AeroFlow- $28.99
Mushkin 2-256MB PC3200 DDR basic green-$110.00
Western Digital 80GB 8MB cache HDD- $74.00
Biostar M7NCD nForce2 motherboard- $53.00
Evga FX 5700 Ultra 128MB DDRII- $179.00
Aspire II midATX case with 350 watt PS- $59.00
Lite-On DVD drive- $32.00
Lite-On 52x32x52x CDRW drive- $37.00
Arctic Silver 5- $10.99
Samsung 1.44MB floppy drive- $9.59
2 Sunon 80mm case fans- $13.80
Microsoft MM keyboard and optical mouse- $33.00

Total- $725.37

This would be a great system. I just used newegg to price everything. Floppy drive, Arctic Silver 5, & case fans can be found elsewhere for much cheaper. Maybe making it possible to buy the Logitech Z640 5.1 speakers at $66.00 or 2 Mushkin 512MB PC3200 DDR at $158.00. I included the shipping prices in all.

yes it would be a good idea to try to get 1gb instead of 512mb of ram. also i'm not sure how it compares to the 5700 ultra that rourkchris suggests but Ati's 9600XT comes with a voucher for hl2 (which will probably be like $50) and it's only about $10 more plus some other brands may have better prices for the 9600XT and also include the voucher.

Going to a gig of memory won't gain you much if anything. 512 will suit everyone but people that work with huge files alot.
