home page problems

Whenever I go into internet explorer now it's not my home page that appears. It's some sort of search engine but i've never heard of it. When I reset my homepage it stays aslong as i am connected but when i disconnect and go back on it is back to that search engine. Anyone have any solutions for me?

edit: even when i just close explorer and don't disconnect it still goes to the search engine page. It seems to be random and have a mind of it's own.

Run Ad-aware or Spybot S&D

Your homepage has been hi-jacked.

Hmm. I ran ad aware. and am now running spybot. Adaware found several things which i deleted but the homepage is still a problem.
Any other advice?

Make sure you update spybot, then goto the "immunize section" and there is a checkmark to lock the IE home page. Then use the immunize to help proactively prevent spyware
Make sure ad-aware is updated before you run it as well.

As far as actualy getting rid of the problem, might want to run a virus scanner as well and check your startup programs (msconfig in run command).

Well there is still the problem. What exactly would i be looking for in my startup programs?
Running spybot didn't do anything.
I got the ad-aware update. When i oppened explorer pressed home 6 times and no problems. I closed it. re opened, no problems. I pressed home again and that stupid search engine appeared before me.

in SpyBotS&D there is an option in settings to "change" web pages to whatever you desire.
I have changed them all to, about:blank ,except one which I left the way SpyBOtS&D has it. (similiar to about:blank)
also I am using win98 installed with 98lite
I am using version 1.2
version 1.3 beta 4 does not like my computer/operating system.

I have to use the option "advanced" mode when starting SpyBotS&D to change any of my options...

Do a search through your registry for the page url. Post any keys it appears in.

set adaware to do a "smart system scan" upon startup. have your anti-virus proggie do a sys scan upon startup as well. be sure all are up-to-date.
