The fan on my 9600 Pro is cracked and there is a torque when it spins. I disconnected it before it cracked all the way and sent plastic shards bouncing around in my case (don't worry the card runs fine in windows I just can't game or the heatsink gets really hot) - and now I need a new cooler.
I was thinking of just taking the cooling fan I have on my GeForce3 (No Ti- it's the original model of GF3) and sticking it on but I am worried that:
1- it won't fit. Or maybe the screw holes will line up but the Radeon has that exposed die and then that metal square (a shim?) around it... will the GF3 cooler even make contact with the core?
2- will it cool well enough? The reason I am wanting to use my GF3 cooler is that I cant hear it run when it's spinning- and I like a quiet system. The 9600 Pro's stock fan was louder to my ear (the loudest fan in my PC actually) and I'm afraid of listening to these Vantec Iceberg's and whatnot with 26+dBAs and 5500+rpms. I don't and won't overclock my 9600Pro but like I mentioned above the fan is a lot quieter (which probably means it's slower and weaker) plus the heatsink part of the 9600Pro is substantially bigger too.
Here's a pic of my old GF3 video card so you can take a look at the cooler:

Otherwise I guess i'm out $15 for a new cooler? I think I'll end up getting a Vantec Iceberg from newegg- any other suggestions though?
