XP2600 (333mhz bus) overclocking

Here we go again.....

System is Xp2600, NF7-s mainboard, DDR400 (512meg), water cooled, amazing overclocking features from motherboard.

Processor etc all at standard, xp at 2083mhz. Won't go any higher, not even 1mhz without serious stability problems. Temperature is good at about 40centegrade.

I seem to have tried everything, adjusting core voltage, memory timings - all timings I think - but no joy whatsoever.

I thought my P4 overclocking was bad, this just beats the hell out of me!!

So it's over to you lot again.......

What overclocking levels do you see listed on other sites for that sort of setup?

I looked at Abit's website, and saw your motherboard has a BIOS update from a few days ago. In fact, the new BIOS update allows you to use nVidia's new "System Utility" to overclock from within windows!

I dont know if it will help at all. And, if you aren't comfortable flashing your BIOS, then don't do it!

NF7-S rev 1.x BIOS
NF7-S rev 2.0 BIOS

(Make sure you choose the correct revision or you will have a catastrophy!)

- rp, cheers, not confident, might try to locate a bios-flashing utility......
If only this was this easy with the p4

John Prophet - read articles etc of this system reaching 2.4-2.6gig (actual - not performance related) and even 3.2gig with nitrogen cooling !

Urban_Squrill - will try upping the voltage again!!

Cheers

What Barton core do you have? Do you have the one that's multiplier locked?

Also, I have my voltage at 1.85 (same mobo that you have) to get a 10x multiplier on a 237 MHz FSB. Solid as a rock, water cooled as well

Palomino core I think, the multiplier is physically locked but can be adjusted via the bios
What sort of temperatures are you getting?

Can't be a Palomino core. The 2800+ comes in 2 flavors.. chocolate and vanilla. err.. Thoroughbred and Barton I mean.

Your CPU is a Barton with the 333mhz bus speed.

To find more info about your CPU, there are 2 basic ways:

(1) Identify using the numbers printed on it (which is hard to do if you've put your computer together..)
(2) Use a free program such as CPU-z

What size is the L2 cache? Only the Barton features 512KB.
