It sounds like you have some conflicts or something else going on.
Check the Device Manager for any problem devices.
(Control Panel | System | [Hardware] | Device Manager)
If the nVidia control panel crashes, you could alternately install the Realtek drivers for your motherboard. Note that installing these drivers will not use the MCP-T hardware acceleration, but rather do it by software. (Basically, your motherboard's sound will behave like a non-deluxe A7N8X)
These Realtek drivers replace the nVidia control panel with its own control panel.
I would suggest you
download and install them
If IE is choppy, then maybe you have a video card issue as well (or AGP driver). You can also look at the Device Manager for problems with your vid card.
