weird sound problem?

Ok.... so far I have the following problem that give me creeps...

I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe with soundstorm and 5.1 audio system, now I only get sound from the front speakers, I checked the manual and they are on the right position, I test the channels and they are setup properly I can hear sound from left right, back left, back right, center and sub.....

But when I hear music, play a DVD or a game I only get sound on the front speakers?

I had a 4 speaker setup before and I remember I had support for the four speakers....

Thanks...

You could try the latest Realtek drivers for ALC650. This will work on your motherboard. (I have the same board.)

However, do note that the it will now be entirely software based. I believe it will 'ignore' the nVidia MCP-T functionality built into the hardware. (Essentially, it will perform like the 'non-deluxe' A7N8X motherboard, because it lacks the hardware MCP-T capabilities.)

It will install a utility in the system tray (notification area as it is called in XP) where you can further configure the speakers.

you could use this as a permanent solution, or a temporary configuration just to 'test' different settings.

Good point. However, I'm not sure that even the 'sound tests' would work if this was incorrectly configured. Also, mentioned below is an 'nVswap' utility, so you don't have to enter the BIOS.

On the A7N8X Dlx:
- Front right/left should be in the 'green' jack
- Rear right/left in the 'black' jack
- Center/Sub in the 'orange' jack.
It should not be necessary to use the Line-In or Mic jacks.

The recommended setup is to use the colors/jacks above (green/black/orange). However, if you'd like to try using the Line-In/Mic as alternative jacks, go ahead and do so. :
- Front left/right in green jack
- Rear right/left in the 'line-in' jack (blue)
- Center/Sub in the 'Mic' jack (pink)

After you do that, you can use the nVSwap utility to adjust these settings. (Click the top 2 buttons to 'swap' the speakers/mic/line-in settings until you hear it fine.)

Hrm... I believe to use surround sound, your dvd player (and WMP, etc..) need to use DirectSound.

I have always seen the default to "DirectSound" in everything but WinAmp.

However, for your reference... Windows Media Player can be configured here:
Tools -> Options
[Devices] -> "Speakers" -> [Properties]
"Audio device to use: DirectSound: NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) AUdio"

WinAmp 5.x can be configured to use DirectSound here:
Preferences (Ctrl + P) -> Plug-ins -> Output -> DirectSound output.
(And furthermore, click [Configure...] -> [x] Allow hardware acceleration)

I don't know where this setting would be in your DVD player. Look in the options!
