Home video to DVD?

How in the world do I do this?

Use Nero?

Use Windows XP?

I have the videos in AVI and MPG format.

I would use something like Pinnacle Studio or similar. Basically you import your video files and them author them to DVD.

You can check the DVD tutorials he posted on the news section like a week ago and see if that helps you out (it's about backing up dvds but it has a ton of useful info).

I did read all 3 parts, and while it does a great job of telling you how to backup a DVD it doesn't tell you how to make your own.

I would think nero would have a drag and drop burning process for making a DVD like it does for makinga VCD.

There are a lot of great guides on doom9.net for that sort of thing. I plan to make a few more DVD articles that would answer your question but moving has really slowed me down on a lot of things that I want to do. I would recomend what SJ said with Pinnacle Studio or some program that will allow you to build a DVD menu. Other programs I know of are Ulead DVD Factory Studio, and Adobe Encore DVD. There are others but these are the ones I have used and found fairly easy to work with.

I don't understand how ANYONE is uspposed to be able to make DVD when software to make them can cost anywhere from $500 to $40,000.

YIKES!

Geez, well I guess if I actually installed the programs that came with the burner....

My dvd burner came with about 6 different programs that seems like they can do everything you could possibly imagine when it comes to making your own VCD or DVD. It's all "Sonic" programs. I guess every company just sends out their own cheapo programs to get the job done.

Haven't burned any DVD's yet, but it seems easy enough.

Well at least I learned a whole lot playing with TMPGEnc and VirtualDUB and AC3machine. Took me the whole day to finally get one pair of ac3/mpeg-II files for a video.
