Need help real bad
Ok I need help as soon as possible. The thing is that I had Redhat linux and Windows xp both installed on different partitions. Everything worked fine until I removed the Linux partitions while in Windows because I never used Linux and needed the drive space. Now I can't access Windows since everytime I reboot the Linux grub2 loader takes command even though I thought I deleted every Linux partition.
I've tried to boot with the Windows CD but that doesn't work, it seems like that grub-thing ignores it.
I'm at a loss here and really need help. If there is anything more you need to know please just ask.
Thanks
/D

I hope someone can help, but it has been my experiance that no windows program can remove a Linux partition. You need the HD manufacurers disk, linux, or a third party program to do that.
It is still there if you run fdisk, it is just messed up.

Sounds like you need to rewrite the MBR.There's 2 ways to go: - Get a win98 bootdisk and boot from it.When you get the A:\ prompt, just type fdisk /mbr
- The other is to boot from the XP CD and choose repair mode and run fixmbr.
I know the 1st way works but the 2nd I'm not sure about as I have never tried it.But I hear it does.
If you dont have a win98 bootdisk you can get one here
Get the win98se oem one.

You need to boot the Windows CD and go into recovery mode where you will run fixmbr, and or fixboot, anyway you can access a list of available commands once you are there.
Grub is installed in the Master Boot Record (MBR) on your computer -you can't remove it by deleting the Linux partitions.
You can't boot the Windows CD because of your BIOS boot order, not because of Grub. Change the boot order in your BIOS and you will be able to boot the CD... note, if what you have is a product recovery CD then you may not be able to get into the recovery console with it -running a product recovery CD will restore the operating system to where it was when you bought the computer -all of your personal files and settings will be gone.

Thanks for your advice but I can't boot from the Cd and it's not in my bios. I have set the boot to first look at the cd, then removable disks and then harddrives and it still doesn't work. I'm trying to get a boot disk to work.
I'll keep you guys updated, but now I have to go out, it's New Years eve and all that ****

what, new years eve? seems like we just celebrated that last year.
If you'd like to boot to floppies, you can make 6 (six!!) of them here. That should get you access to the recovery console at the very least. (You don't want to start installing from these disks though.)

Anyway, this wouldn't happen to be a "burned copy" of XP would it? Everybody knows an origianl or copy of the original CD is bootable.

Thanks for all your help, I just fixed it, rewriting the mbr. New Years Eve I was in kind of panic mode since a friend came over with his laptop and we was going to play some games before heading over to a party, but things worked out anyway. Now everythings seems to work, except the strange thing that I still get the PC-Agent loading screen (allthough it later jumps right to Win XP). Any ideas to remove it completely?
Thanks
