Serial -> USB

Hi,

This may need moving, but I'm asking anyway...

Is there a way to make your own convertor that allows serial plugged into USB? I have seen them but they are quite expensive? do they do complex things or is it just wiring?

Thanks,
Koal

I'm sure if you can find a pin-out array you could do it no problem. There are numerous websites that specialize in things like this. Just search around. But if you've found them to be that expensie it may be that there is in-line electronics involved.

Here is a reasonably priced adaptor. I would be very careful trying to rig something like that by hand.

well attached is the image of the connections I need. Also, it needs screening, so what type of cable would you suggest? I'd want to make this cable about 2m and another extension (XLR side) of about 10-15m

hmm you need drivers for that one so perhaps making your own you'd need them too to emuleatue a COM port for software to find (kinda difficult to do on XP)
