9600pro and motherboard problem
ok i need some major help here. i just bought a radeon AIW 9600pro, but im having trouble getting it to work. i think the problem is with my motherboard.
in the installing instructions it said i needed the newest agp controllers (GART) for my chipset in order fot the 9600pro to work. I have a VIA vt8375/km266 chipset motherboard, and i went to the VIA site to get the drivers, but the one for vt8375 isnt there! I reformatted my comp before i installed the 9600pro so there are no previous drivers. i installed the 9600pro anyway since i couldnt find the GART driver for my mb just to see if it would work. it booted up and everything normally and it said it was using the 9600pro in device manger, i installed the catalyst from the cd that came with the card, but i checked properties>settings>advanced>adapters and it said that everything was unavailable.
I dont really know much about this motherboard/vid card compatiability stuff so i could really use some help.
thanks alot

Go here: VIA Arena and download/install the latest VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers. This driver package works for all VIA chipset boards, you don't need (and won't find) a specific vt8375/km266 chipset driver.
Oh... and welcome to TechIMO

ok i installed the 4in1, put the 9600pro back in, resintalled catalyst, stilll had the same problem. after it booted up i got this message:
The ATI control panel failed to initialize because no ATI driver is installed, or ATI driver is not working properly.
i also tried to run a game (americas army) and i said that it couldnt run due to "No Video". The error message said to enable 3d acceleration by runing dxdiag, so i did. the disable/enable buttons for DirectDraw acceleration, Direct3D acceleration, and AGP texture acceleration are all shaded out so i cant select them and beside each of those it says "Not Available". It also says that the system is using the generic video driver.

Hmm... try this: uninstall the Catalyst drivers through Add/Remove, reboot, then install and run Driver Cleaner to remove all traces of the ATI drivers so that you're back to WinXP's default generic drivers and then reinstall the Catalyst drivers.

Did you tried to download the latest Catalyst driver from ATI to see if it works?
Also, Drivers (4in1) http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300
Did you checked the manual also to see if they have a troubleshooting section or something.!?

What were you using for video before you installed the ATI card - onboard video??
Perhaps you need to disable the onboard video in BIOS and/or uninstall the old drivers.
Also - post the make/model of motherboard and what OS you are using. That info may be of some help.

well, the mb has integrated video, but i was using a geforce2 with no drivers installed ofr it and it was working fine, so i assume that you dont need to disable the onboard. i think it just automatically doesnt use it if there is another card installed.
.... or i could be completly wrong....
also, do i need to install the 4in1 driver after i uninstall catalyst/ run driver cleaner?

the 4 in 1 drivers are for the motherboard......so in a sense you might have 2 "agp" drivers.....I think the whole "gart" thing is speaking of the motherboard part of the equation....and THEN of course you have to have ATI drivers for the video card part of it.
So when you see "agp" drivers it could ne speaking of MOTHERBOARD apg..or VIDEO CARD.
(I think, lol)
edit--------------
see, for instance I ran across a thread where the dude is trying to get an nvidia card to work on an intel board....he is looking for the gart drivers FOR THE BOARD.
"Does anyone have a clue as to where you can find and download the GART drivers for an Intel board. I'm trying to help someone out here in the forum, but I can not find any place to dl them from. The board is an Asus P4PE and he is trying to use a ti 4200 video card. He is showing that the video card is in PCI mode, and not AGP 2.0 mode. "
So see, the gart should be part of the 4in1 drivers FOR THE BOARD......obviously you need those...you need the newest 4in1 drivers NO MATTER WHAT video card you are using....BUT..you of course ALSO need the drivers for the individual video card itself!
