Kids Fresh XP Install Freezes

Hi Guys. I just decided to buy XP pro, and upgrade from XP Home. I have preformed a full install with XP Home quite often. But, when I do a fresh install of XP Pro, it freezes at about the 35Min mark . Its trying to install components or such, but then freezes. I have never had to deal with this in the home version. I am quite lost....

Any help would be great....Need to get my FaD running again

Thanks,
Truckie

how much time do you give it as in some parts of the install it does look like it froze but it reall didn't it is looking at the system and settings and writeing thm to a file and compareing them to the new dara for the install, it looks for all the network systems also
so it can take some time sometimes

Well when I try to install even the little green squres at the bottom right freeze. I left it go for about 30 minutes and no change. I still think it is freezing. I will try again tonight and see what happens this time. I may end up staying with XP home and selling this XP pro if I cant figure this out. Man I hate windows.

Did you try removing any 'extra' hardware (such as card readers, usb drives, etc..)?

Is the CD dirty? (Or maybe it is bad..)

You could also try copying the entire 'i386' folder to the hard drive, and install from there (rather than the CD). (C:\i386 would be fine).

Thanks for the assists guys. To be exact, the Modem was making the install freeze. It is a Broadexant modem (pci) which cannot be installed before the upgrade. I had to email tech support at ms for this one. LOL...man, they take like 5 hours to explain a simple task. Cant help but to laugh at em

Well thats better than them not knowing how to fix it at all =)

Glad you got it working, I had a heck of a time with a 56k modem PCI card when I tried installing xp for the first time (side note - thank god they moved dsl into our area)
