Outdoors Dang Floppy Drive

Now normally I wouldnt care about a floppy drive not working, but for my new computer I need it to install SATA drivers for my hard drive so the computer can detect the hard drive and load Windows. I have pretty much tried everything with it. I hooked it up to the computer Im on now, and it works fine. It lights up when the computer boots and all. I even tried taking the cord from this computer and putting it on the new computer but that doesnt work. Im really frustrated with this damn thing. We know the floppy drive is good, so I can only think the power cord is messed up or something with the mobo or something Im not thinking of.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

you tried flipping one end over (as per instant message a few days ago)?

you have it enabled in the bios?

There arent any pins bent on the motherboard connector?

You could put your new comp next to your current computer, and attach the PSU power cable to the drive, and see if that works. Or, attach the floppy cable from your working computer to your new computer. (I have done this before, to install SATA drivers in fact)

-The cord only goes in one way. There is a notch so it only goes in one way.

-I think so....being relativley new at this though, I dont know.

-No, the mobo connector looks good

-And I think that will be the last thing I do lol.

Go into your bios, and load the default settings. you might aslo try resetting the CMOS and clear everything back to defaults.

Is it any easier to simply take the power supply from your working computer and try it in your new one?

glad it works. if you need any further help, just ask

and in the future, you could modify the Windows CD to include the drivers. It's tricky, but possible:

KB 288344 - HOWTO: Unattended Installation of Third Party Mass Storage Drivers in Windows NT and Windows 2000
