Can't FTP through linksys router

I have been trying to upload images to my web space and running in circles. I contacted my isp and everything seem to be OK on there end. I had them recreate my web space as it was when I first signed on and the same thing still. I used to be able to upload using the router but now I am not able to. I have the BEFSR41 router and have no problems with it before. I notice that when I try to upload it starts then my receive light on the modem lights up and Act blinks but the computer LEDS Link/ACT lights do not blink which leaves me to believe that the router is blocking it. I went back to win2kpro on this box as I thought winXP pro was causing the issue but it was not the case. I have tried with and without ZA all the same. I tried with WS_ftp LE, bulletproof, and good ol IE and nothing works to upload image files. I have 50mb of storage space and the ISP said I had all 50mb available. Is there anything to change on the router to make sure it receives info for FTP.

Hmm.. does the connection just "stall" out.. or are u unable to connect at all (error message right away). You might want to try switching it into "Passive FTP" mode in the ftp program's settings.

have you tried disconnecting the router and using the ftp site w/out it to make sure its the router? thats strange because i dont have to do anything to upload stuff to my friends site and i have a 4 port linksys as well. you already mentioned ZA and had it turned off so i dont know what base hasnt been covered. strange.

If you find that it works without the router, then maybe you need to forward some ports, OR place your computer in the DMZ (essentially removing yourself from any firewall/NAT protection on the router.)

However, if you find it still fails when directly connected to the modem (no router), then you could have a firewall issue. have you disabled the XP built-in firewall? I've also seen situations where the ZoneAlarm program still 'blocked' connections even if it was disabled. It aparently still has 'hooks' into your system until you un-install it. If you run out of options, try un-installing ZoneAlarm

it could be zone alarm or the router but that seems kind of odd... if you were trying to setup an ftp server then I could of course see a port forwarding conflict, but simpyl and outbound connection should work.

My linksys BEFW11S4 with zone alarm set on high for firewall still lets me connect to ftps for uploading.

Perhaps your ISP doesnt want to admit a problem....

Try the computer directly connected without zone alarm temporarily though just to clear up all possibilities (I wouldnt recommend leaving it hooked up like this for too long though)

Ok I tried without router and Zone alarm on a system that has never had Zone alarm installed on it and the same thing. I can log on to the server but when I send and image it starts and gets about half way then stalls out and just sits there. Looks like I will be calling them again

Well I give up I talk with ISP again and they can transfer gif's to my space so they say the problem lies on my side even though I can not upload correctly from either computer tried without router and without firewall. Both systems are running win2kpro so I haven't tried any other since removing XP pro. I guess I will have to fine some web space to store img

I assume you've got a broadband connection? Its a long shot, but maybe you just need to tweak it

Otherwise, have you tried 'passive mode' like VHockey86 suggested?

What file sizes are we talkin about here? If they're just pictures, they should be pretty small... and should have no reason to be 'timing out' or anything.

I tried in passive mode and it was no good either.

BTW the tweak test said everything was great, so I'm still at a loss.

Update and still no go. I did a fresh install win2kpro with sp4 and still got the same issue. Mntsnow verified for me that it was not my ISP problem as he can upload gif's just fine. So that leave me to believe that for some reason either the modem or my connection is at fault as I already tried without the router and had the same issue. I would hate to go out and get a new modem and have wasted money only to find I have the problem still. All on-line test that I have done for my connection come back with great results so I doubt that is the cause.
