avi to mpg

I have an avi file that I used avi2vcd(version 1.4.2) to encode to mpg. It split it into 2 files, no problem. But when I used divx player, and or windows media player series 9 to play the created mpg files the movie is upside down, there is static noise instead of clear sound, and the movie is a bit on the jittery side. What happened, and how can I convert this to mpg without this happening again? I have since deleted the mpg files as they are junk.

AVI2VCD can't handle the new DivX 5 codec. There's a disclaimer on their page that states it's a DivX problem. It's been like that since DivX 5 came out. Anyway, supposedly if the .avi is smaller than a GB, you should have any problems. I've tried it on like 5 or 6 and never got it to work correctly. Now, I just watch the .avi's on my PC until somebody pulls their head outta they's . . . well, you know what I mean.

Why not give TMPGEng a try as it is freeware and works great. You can split the file using it also if needed
