Promise ata100tx question.

I have a promise ata card (non raid). It works fine with my harddrives but when I connect an optical drive to it, xp just hangs at the boot screen.
I think that the promise card is seeing it when it loads but xp will not load.

I did check the master, slave settings also.

Any help is appriecated

Only hard drives will function properly on a Promise controller card. Place your hard drives on the controller and connect your optical drives to the onboard IDE connectors.

As Kuasimodem states the Promise Ultra100 will not support standard ATAPI devices only hard drives

I have the same controller card that I used before I got into SATA. Hard drives only.

I would have to disagree. I've had a Promise ATA/100 with a Zip
750 drive and a DVD ROM running from the card. 2HDDs IDE 1,
2 CD s IDE2. True, Zip is not optical but the DVD is. Both worked well. My card was installed with new XP install (F6 SCSI Prompt)

most ata controller cards and raid ports on motherboards tell u plainly not to try to use optical drives.

Maybe a few will work but overall it is not recommended.
