Burning CDs using XP (freaking annoying)
I like the fact that we can use Windows XP to burn CDs, but I hate how it constructs an image of your files before burning! Is there any way to tell it to burn straight onto the CD? The other day I burned a CD that was 637mb and it took 51 minutes to complete the task!!! Yes, my CDRW disc was rated for 1x-4x, but 51 minutes???
By the way, please don't tell me to try another burning program. My question is "is there any way to change this in the settings?"
Thanks!

Well...seeing how other burning programs have pissed me off lately in XP...I think I'm at the same point you are...
Did you find anything yet?

did you check in the control panel?
i know that xp's internal burning program is a watered down version of ez-cd creator, so if your burner and that don't get along, you might be mildly sol. Quote: |

| maintain an open mind my friend. your best bet might still be to try nero or another program and see if you get better results. i mean, you can only expect so much out of something built into the os.

Nero 5.5.6.4 works perfectly with XP, but the Direct CD component, INCd doesn't work. So I went back to Platinum with the XP update. Works Ok, but if you put any other Cd writing program, the DirectCD stops working.

well i'm not big on cd-rw anyway. my burner seems to enjoy eating the discs for lunch.
but i always reccomend nero. it's a great program for burning that works well across all flavors of windows and with just about ANY burner.

Does XP has a buildin burner function??
I'm a happy XP burner with Nero 5.5.5.1 (you don't need the newest version Shahani )
More info on burning data with XP: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../copytocds.asp
doesn't say anything about imaging it first. |

I successfully use EZ CD Creator 5.0 platinum (no patch needed) Clone CD, and Nero 5.5.0 in XP Pro.
I tried XP's built in software, but is sooooooo slow. I haven't been able to find any settings to change it either :-/ sorry.

I found the settings one time... of course, they're buried in a place you wouldn't expect (well, IMO). I can't remember where it was right now. Yeah, I always recommend Nero if anything, although I don't own it yet. I bought a cheap copy, but it turned out to be specific to one particular model. Nero said I just had to buy an update, though, so I'll probably do that.
But I was afraid this thread would turn into a debate on what burning software is best. And I just wanted to know if anyone could give a specific answer to my specific question. I didn't mean to sound rude or anything.
Anyway, when I found the XP burning settings, it only had about half-a-dozen settings, and didn't include anything regarding image creation. **sad**
By the way, I tried one of Nero's latest demos, and I'm SAD that it's turned into one big burning-wizard. What happened to all the settings we once had??? It wouldn't even let me copy a CD at 1x (had to back up my Carmageddon 2 CD that way - it was gettin' scratched). I had to use CloneCD (which is awesome, except can't burn files off HDD, just 1 CD to another).

Hmm I stick with the 5.5.5.1 version than. It lets me still change all settings and speed, just close the wizzard. Don't know about the newest versions though.
Here is some setting you can change with burning with native XP burn utility.
Right click on the CD-RW drive and click properties
Then go to Recording, its the last tab.
You can't disable the image writing though |
