Problem with Epson .....

An Epson PhotoPC 550 Camera.

It was given to me so it's a free problem ... well free until I bought a Memory Card for it. I bought a Smart Media Card for it that I thought was the right one. Right size and shape .... guy at store said it was the right one too. I even downloaded the PDF file that was the manual for the Camera ..... BUT......

When I put the Card in the view finder light never turns green Like it does without the card in it. This also means that it won't take any pictures. And it doesn't show me how much room (in number of photos) is left on the card.

I've tried the "formatting the card" thing that the instructions said to do .... and no change ..... !?!?!?!?!?

This free camera did not come with the serial port cable to download the pic's to my PC so I was going to use the Media Card in my "7 in 1" card reader.]

Anyone here have a similar problem, and overcome it ????

well, it says it takes a smart media card....how do you know the camera is good to start with? Did they say it was good when they gave it to you? Does the pdf say anything about a difference between using the internal 1m memory and using the card? Like you said, a certian way to format it or something? Maybe youll just have to go thru the manual again?

"How do I know the camera is good?" you asked.

1-They said it worked fine. 2-I put batteries in it and a number of remaining photos reads "10". 3-I wait 3 seconds and the light by the viewfinder changes from red to green and I push the button. 4-The number changes from "10" to "9".

Without the Serial cable that hooks the camera to the PC Theres no way of transfering that data.

Are there different voltage Smart Media Cards ?

Anyone with any "direct" experience with this Camera?
