Kids Copy a home DVD?

I have a DVD that has been commercially
transfered from our home movies- VHS Tapes.
Now I would like to make a copy of it.

At this point I have only a CD Burner.
Is it possible to transfer the DVD contents to the HDD and then edit a lot of it out to fit onto a CD?
The DVD plays well on the computer but I have been unable to save it to the HDD.
Any suggestions?
Also, I would like to eventually get the "Pioneer A03 " DVD Burner.
What kind of software do you recommend?
Would it be DVD X Copy?

DVD xcopy is for copying it using a dvd burner I think.

Otherwise what you want to do is make a "vcd"....in other words put the dvd onto a couple of cd's.

Im not sure about the whole "transfer it to hard drive" thing but I am sure its possible.

There are several articles on this forum about it
...go up to the top of the screen and click on "articles" youll see em "backing up your dvds" etc

You need a piece of software to "rip" the content of the DVD. DVD Decrypter is a free piece of software that will do even encrypted DVDs so it shold work fine on your home movies.

That'll get you to the point where you can edit it.
