Sec. monitor screen size problem

I have an ATI AIW video card, my 19" monitor is set as primary, and my old Gateway EV700 17" is set as secondary. The problem is, if I set the 17" to be the same resolution as the 19", 1024x768, I end up having to bounce the cursor off the secondary monitor's sides to see the entire desktop.

I remember having a problem similar to this years ago, but don't remember how I fixed it. I've tried changing the amount of colors but that didn't make any difference. I don't really mind having an 800x600 monitor setting, but I'm not able to take advantage of Hydravision's Maximize feature, where you can span one desktop across two monitors.

Do you have the right frequency?

In: Display Properties -> Settings tab, right-click the 2ndary monitor, and click "properties..."

On the Monitor tab, you should ensure that the MHz are correct for that monitor.

You'll also want to click [Advanced...] button on that Settings tab, then use the [Displays] tab to troubleshoot the monitors. See if any settings in there can help.

WOW, thanks for the response. I gave up on this thread days ago!

The problem turned out to be a setting in the ATI Hydravision Desktop Manager, where you can have the program "automatically align monitors", but I think that's used in the case where both displays are the same physical size, so I unchecked the box and the problem was solved. I ended up back at 800 x 600 anyway because text and stuff was too small for my old eyes.

As far as frequency, I assume you're talking about the refresh rate? Although I don't think that would have any effect on screen size, I keep it at 75 Hz.
