My date is wrong

My day, month and year on this computer is always jumping around. I keep setting it and a few days later is 6-8 months behind.Would this be related to the CMOS battery? That is my first culprit.

I'd go with the battery myself.

Does it stay current as long as the PC is on?

It is probably the battery.

If you go to your local Radio Shack take the old batteries with you. They will be able to test them and let you know if they are dead.

This happened to a customer build recently and I was ready to kick myself 'cuz his computer wouldn't even boot!!

Problem was because of the cmos resetting I was also losing boot sequencing (I had his setup special) and more importantly..........clock/bus speeds!!

Because so many of today's mobos are "soft" set, you have to be careful!! I have never had a problem like this with hard "jumper" set mobos 'cuz a bad cmos battery didn't matter!!

BTW, I think that sometimes these batteries are just bad 'cuz this one was on a brand new mobo and I replaced it with a battery that was at least 5 years old out of another system and he's been fine for over a month now!! <shrug>
