XP Logon/Shutdown screen

hey i'm using XP Pro SP1 and i was wondering. i saw a friend's new computer the other day with the same version of windows and he had the 'old' / 'classic' style logon screen and shut-down menu. also when he did ctrl+alt+delete he had the 'NT' style screen including options for locking the computer. i have the blue screens with the silly pictures and when i do ctrl+alt+delete i go straight to the task manager.

how do i change these setting as i really hate the shut-down menu in particular? i've hunted for hours and hours and can't find the settings anywhere.

thanks!

Well, for the Ctrl+Alt+ Delete thingie, you should get rid of this if you go to:

My Computer->Control Panel-> Users -> Change the way you logon to the computer. Disable Fast Switching and Enable Classic logon.

About the Start Menu and Shutdown thingie... maybe this also gets resolved when you do this.!

yup, eagle1's way will change it the way you want it.

If you'd also like to do away with the new start menu/taskbar, you can go back to the classic view:

Open the start menu, and right-click an empty area (such as your user name at the top, or under the "Run..." box) and choose "Properties". In the window that opens (Taskbar and Start Menu Properties), simply choose "(x) Classic Start Menu"

that's great yeah i already got rid of the ridiculous new-style start menu cos i used a program once and it kept it in my recently-used bit for weeks...i'd rather be in control of my shortcuts...but i do like the new type windows and buttons...to a point!

thanks

lol

I have grown to like the new XP style. I used to despise it. Now, I think the 'classsic' style is rather boring.

XP Pro was originally going to be released with the classic look as default (and the 'Home' edition with the new look). However, to the companies that tested out the 'new look' on XP Pro, they liked it so much that Microsoft made it default.

I actualy like the new scheme... however I use Tweak UI to control which programs can and cant show up in the "recently used programs" list.
