Pentium 4 2.4B - HyperThreading

How is HTT enabled on B class chips? I know only the 3.06B had this, but have a program from Intel that states its disabled on my chip. Surely if all B class use the same core then they all have this function?

The 2.4B, which is a 533MHz front side bus processor, does not have hyperthreading. The minimum is 800MHz FSB, found on 2.4C and faster processors.

As with the multipliers on P4's, the HT feature on the slower B core P4's are factory locked, with no way found to enable them. Yes, the feature is there, but Intel wanted people to spring quite a bit for that particular feature when it was first introduced.

But, like Asteral said, the newer C core processors, starting at 2.4GHz, all have HT enabled.

I think I read somewhere that there is an adaptor that goes between the cpu & socket that will enable the HT on 2.4b chips.
Anyone seen this? I have only heard of it and never seen one.

Fopund it here:

http://plpadmin.tempdomainname.com/index2.html

You'll need to select desktop/socket 478/pl-ip4
to see the adaptor

Looks like it's designed for Motherboards that do not support HT. It does not unlock the CPU. It allows for Motherboard that don't support HT to support the new 3.06GHz P4's.

Food HT on all P4 Bs? or HT on all P4, B.S. ?

Yes that adapter does enable HT support on nonHT boards, such as the i845 "Brookdale" and the i850 "Tehama", but it doesn't unlock HT on the Proc.

Although from what I usnderstand, all Procs with the a Northwood core has HT but it's disabled on all P4s under the "C" class, with the exception of the 3.066 "B".

Supposedly it can be enabled, on the 2.4B anyway. I haven't read much about it, yet, but here is what i've found so far

http://www.ntcompatible.com/story14844.html

"VR-Zone has managed to enable Hyper-Threading on P4 2.4BGhz just one day before the launch of the P4 3.06Ghz HT CPU.

This has proven that HT has been present in the Northwood processors for quite some time but was disabled by the BIOS. -Posted by philipp on: 2002-11-13 14:23:31"

Hope this helps

you have the P4 2.4ghzC which is 800mhz fsb and has HT enabled

L337 P337, can you post a link directly to the VR-Zone page regarding enabling the HT

Well I had a change to read more and far as I could tell only one person has done it succesfully.

VR-Zone has been trying to dupicate this for years now but with no luck. They tried to figure out how Intel is disabling HT on the B class chips and narrowed it down to either intel using a MicroCode method or, the most likey to be true, Micron Fuse burning. (that's how they lock the Multiplier)

If the Latter is true then it would be impossible to enable, since you would have to fix the burned out MICRON fuse, but if it's a MicroCode then it can be enbaled by Flashing the bios.

VR-Zone seems to still be looking for a way but with 2.4C Procs as low as $160 , that's $6 cheaper then a 2.4B, it may not be worth it anymore. I for one hope they pull it off cause I want HT have no plans to turn in my 2.4B (O/Ced to 3.0 with air cooling) for a "C".

BTW here is a link to VR-Zone's Forums to keep you up to date: http://www.vrforums.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=6
