Need help upgrading my bios...

SiSoftware tells me I need "MPS 1.4 or later", but a google search is not turning up anything easily discernable.

Even if it turns out I found the right file, these instructions make no sense to me...
But these instructions are written with the intention that those reading already have a fair idea of what they are doing, and that they know their way around MSDOS. I am neither.

Perhaps someone could help me by explaining the process more clearly and simply.

Send a message via AIM to Martoch
Perhaps you could post up what motherboard you have and what link you are referring to?

I wouldn't worry about what Sandra says.

But, to answer your question, all you really need is a bootable floppy, Bootdisk.com has some just for BIOS flashing, and the files for you brand/model mobo. The mobo mfr usually has step-by-step instructions on their site to tell you what you need to do.

unless you have a problem , i wouldn't advise you to flash your bios . if you mess it up you will kill the board. so if your not having a problem i wouldn't flash your bios

Well, what kind of problems would you normally fix with a bios flash?

I have all kinds of quirky things going on with my computer, which is why I want to clean it out and get everything updated.

'Gigabyte Technology Co,. Ltd 7VTXE' is my motherboard. I can't find that website again, but it's probably irrelevent now anyway as I wasn't sure if it was the right file.

EvilRick, how do I know that windows XP pro SP1 bootdisk has the most up-to-date bios?

Here's Gigabyte's Homepage

and here's your mobo

What Rick and Omar are saying is "if it aint broke, don't fix it".

Sandra will tell you to upgrade the bios, but If you are not having a conflict with some new hardware why risk blowing the mobo?

Read up on any specific problem you may be having, a Bios flash may or may not help the problem.

If you do flash your BIOS, you should be plugged into a UPS when you do it.

yes that is correct, unless the bios upgrade is needed to fis a problem, don't do it

if you do do it anyway, try to have the system hooked up with a ups for your own protection.

I do not recommend that you play with it .
