Kids Memory Tester?

I have a problem with my pc. I try to open programs and I get a windows error saying such and such (the program) needs to close sorry for the inconvienience. Now I thought I had to reformat, but now I notice at start up the ASUS voice thing tell me system failed memory test. So my question is does anyone know of a good (Easy) memory tester, or maybe a different solution to me problem.

Thx Wolf

http://www.memtest86.com/

Read the instructions at the site. D/L Memtest and run it from a bootdisk. It does take awhile.. I have let it run all night on older socket 7 systems.

There should be no errors...none.

A memory chip is made up of many transistors, each transistor will supply either a 1 or a 0 in binary code. When passing data, and a bad transistor does not change a 1 to a 0, or vice versa.. the data is not being passed correctly, and the system knows it. Windows will fail to function because it cannot deal with incorrect data.

Wolf
You reboot with the memtest floppy in the drive.

1 Unzip memtest86
2 pop in your formatted floppy
3 right click on install MS DOS Battery file
4 on mSDOS prompt type A enter assuming you A drive is floppy
Remember if you have more than one computer, you will have to download memtest for each one. That floppy won't work in multiple PC's
5 it will install on floppy then reboot with floppy in drive

Just to note.. because I overclock, my Asus board (A7n8x dlx, rev 2) always tells me the memory test failed, but in reality it is fine. I simply turned off the speech feature in the BIOS. (I got sick of hearing her, and I'm sure she needs to rest her vocal cords.)

If you find no errors with MemTest86, then tt may just be a false alarm.

EDIT: Also wanted to mention that MemTest86 shows no problems with my RAM, and my system functions just fine.

There is also a CD image if you don't have a floppy drive/disk to boot with. (Use a CDRW, no use wasting 699mb of a CD-R disc.)
