Systems fan out on powersupply

I have an atx case and the fan on my powersupply just stopped. It's been making noise for a couple weeks and it just now rattled and quit. Do I need a new powersupply or just a fan? Anyone know the best, most inexpensive place to buy one?

Thanks!

Donna

You can open it up and check but most power supplies use a standard 80mm case fan. Buy one anywhere for a few dollars. I use www.nexfan.com but the shipping will be high for a single item.

You might look on www.pricewatch.com

Becarefull tho, sometimes, especialy when the fans have thermal sensors on them or voltage control for the fan, adding a new one might not work. You should also try to get a replacement fan that matches the specs of the dead one as close as posible, ie same voltage and amperage.

I've changed fans out on various powersupplies without a problem. Usually they are soldered to the powersupply pcb though. All I did is cut and splice. Never had a problem.

yes you can just change it and most the time you will be fine . but MrPurple makes a good point .

also becarefull some of the caps in the powers supply hold voltage . and you can get a very nasty shock if you go fishing around in a power supply . the odds are low you will geta shock , but just realise that it can happen and be carefull .
