Decent: Freespace 2

I have the orginial Freespace and I must say that although it came out back in '98, it is IMO one of the best games i have ever played, on any platform and the graphics were amazing then, and are still good even by todays standards. I've heard even greater things about the sequel, but i've never been able to find it since strangely enough, neither game gained much popularity. I've searched every rack of games all local retail stores such as EB and the bargain bins at wal mart and circuit city but nothing. Does anyone know how i could get my hands on this game?

The game is 'out-of-print', meaning that e-bay or a imilar site is about your only hope. PM me if you are really desprate.

I spent many hours playing Descent3 online.

It doesn't make sense that its "out of print". There are many older and junkier games on store shelves.

It's discontinued because Interplay is starting to shut down their PC division for consoles only. A real shame, since many of the gretest PC games ever are Interplay games. (Descent, Freespace, and Fallout series come to mind).

$64, is that a typo? Current games sell for $50 at the most.

I still think Freespace 2 is the best space combat sim ever made. Sucks that you can no longer find it in stores but as it is abandonware you can get the full game (minus cutscenes) from the Underdogs at http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=4150. Also I recall seeing the 3 cd images for it floating on bittorrent.

Volition also released the source to it and the FreeSpace Source Code Project was born. Check out their site for a tweaked version of the game at http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/fsscp/index.php .

Once you get the game and beat it, go to http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/babylon/ and get the Babylon 5 mod.

Give the Shivans hell

Freespace 2 came bundled with a Dell computer I bought a couple of years ago- I sold the game on Ebay last year for $75...

An awesome space sim, the likes of which I've not seen since then...

A side note about my copy of the game. I've still got the CD case insert somewhere around here, and I saved it because it has a most interesting clause in the EULA.

You may make copies of the software for your personal non-commercial home entertainment use, and to give to friends and aquaintances on a no cost non-commercial basis.

Now there's an End User License Agreement that you don't see very often!

We've talked about this over on the Interplay forums, and so far no one at Interplay will confirm if this license says what it appears to say. But, I see it as Volition's way of making sure their creation can be enjoyed by all- now that they are gone.

If anyone here has a copy of this game, check your EULA- does yours say this?
