3dmark2001 score dropped 2k points!

just got back from 3 months of tech school and decided to format my hard drive and reinstall everything with the newest drivers possible.
after installing everything i benched it with 3dmark 2001 and my score dropped from about 17-18k to 15k and some change.
my question is, is this normal with the newest catalyst drivers since the so called "cheater drivers" they had before? or am i missing something?

The newest build of 3dmark is suppose to block out any optimizations so that would have affected it.
