about sick of winders..

alright, i have a Soyo SY-K7ADA motherboard, a stick of 256ram, and a stick of 128ram, and a Seagate 40GB HDD. I have windows xp professional installed on it, and it was running fine for a year or so, and then one day,(this is my sister's computer), my sister came in my room and said her computer froze, and that she rebooted it, and it came up, right before it normally displays the XP LOADING SCREEN, it gave me the "please insert system disk" error. so, i went in and looked at it, and sure enough, it wouldnt boot into windows, it's almost like she installed linux, and then removed the boot loader.. even though she didn't. but anyway, so i then took it in my room, and reformatted it, all went well, and it worked for 3 weeks or so, came in today and she said it gave her the error again. is there anything i can do besides reformat, im sick of reformatting... would it be possible to boot to windows on the hdd, using a floppy? any help appreciated, thanks.

It may be possible that problems lies within a hardware conflict or such. Possibly the hard drive went bad and corrupted Windows.

maybe try running a thorough scandisk to see if the hard drive has some bad sectors etc.

and/or running a good memory checker....maybe someone can post up a link..I think one of them is called memtest86 or something like that

well, i just went in and turned it on, after leaving it off the whole night, and it worked fine, maybe the drive is overheating? im leaving it on for a few days and then going to feel it, and see how warm it gets, i dont have any thermal probes or anything. will post back with results.
