Building my first system

Hi! I finally have a little cash so I can put my first system together. Heres some of the details about what it will be used for.

I'm building this computer for my dad. He doesn't play many games on it ( Although he does play some now and then, not very graphic intensive ones or anything ) , he does a lot of web browsing and checks his e-mail. It will also be used for a little storage for a few downloads I have I have to keep this system under $400. We are going to just keep the Sound Card and NIC we have in the current one and put it in the new one.

I'm using new egg and this is what I priced out...

I would spend more on the motherboard and get on with an onboard NIC and most of them already have sound on them. Also, you may be able to find a very cheap cd drive. I have a cheap one and have been using it until today, when I got a DVD-Writer

hey, my first post, I just wanted to say that I built my first and only machine two years ago after reading on here and every review on newegg that I could. After two years that machine is still bulletproof and fast as ever. I would do it again in a heartbeat and I may have to as the amd speed is almost a double now.

Good luck with the build

That looks pretty good, but if you want to spend a bit more you can switch the mobo to a Shuttle MN31N, it has a gforce4 mx integrated video.

And if its cheaper, you can just get a single 512mb stick instead.
