Systems BSOD with web cam installed in XP

Thanks to advice given to me in another thread I hope to have cleared this up. I now have a new 400w power supply and a 2.0 USB pci card, but I get a BSOD when I plug in the web cam with XP running.

The system is stable except for that device. The code displayed is:
Stop: 0x00000044 (0x81CF4008,0x00001B90,0x00000000,
0x00000000).

If I press reset to clear up the screen and to reboot the PC I get the following (after post and it is about to start XP).
Stop: 0x40000080 (0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,
0x00000000)

I did check the knowledgebase and it had the first segment of the first error, but that is all.

Any one here have any idea what the heck is going on?? I do have the latest driver for the web cam that I have.

Thanks,

got the latest windows updates?

you say you have drivers for the webcam...Id make sure I have the latest drivers for the usb card and motherboard also.

Do you have other usb devices hooked up also? Maybe try it without the other devices hooked up.

Also..what is the exact make/model of the webcam and also the motherboard? And also the usb card! lol. I would check all those websites for faqs to see if its a common problem.....maybe starting at the webcam website.

John,

The only update I haven't installed is SP1, any other has been loaded.

Th MB is a FIC board - AZII , with a Athlon 800MHZ CPU, The USB is a Belkin 2.0 5-port card (new one), other is on the MB. The Web cam is no longer being made (M318B) and no futher drivers are out there.

John, I'll check the USB maker's site to see if there is any updates there. Don't know if there is any new drivers for the MB as I haven't looked at that site for a long time.

I had seen/heard that it could mess up the PC in certian setups. I'll install it just to see if it will clearup this problem.

I just finished the SP1 and so far I don't have any trouble with it. I haven't tried to plug in the web cam yet. Getting cold feet on doing that it has crashed this thing too many times today already.

lol..I know the feeling...hopefully its just a matter of searching google using all the different terms you can think of, searching also the various related sites..like msoft, the webcam site, the usb card site, etc etc until you find an answer..cuz usually someone else has already had the same issue.

John,

I finally did plug in the cam and activated it with out the system crashing with the BSOD. It looks like there was something in the SP1 that corrected the USB issue, along with the new card.

Thanks for the help!!

sp1 should be installed before any other softwaer is installed
right after the o/s in installed

most crashes in xp is caused by bad ram

something to check
