Starting Problems
When I go to turn on my new computer to load Windows XP Pro the black screen says it sees my Maxtor hard drive. But when I go to set up Windows it says it doesnt see any hard disc. Do I have to load some software, because the hard drive came with nothing. Do I maybe have to partition it.
Thanks for any help you can give.

You will need to format the hard drive before you can install XP.
Partitioning is optional. You should be able to do both from the XP cd during installation.

boot with the above mentioned floppy,
run w/o CD-ROM support (boots faster)
run fdisk
put your XP install disk in the drive
reboot.
(Make sure that in the BIOS you select to boot from the CD-ROM drive before the Hard drive)

hmmm, I think you got that backwards, lol. You DONT have to format BEFORE the install, cuz the xp cd will do the formatting, but evidently you DO have to use fdisk to put a partition on there.

TRB, put the win XP cd into the drive, go into your BIOS and select the boot option to boot from CD-ROM, restart and see if it works.

I booted from disc but doesnt work because it doesnt detect a hard drive. I guess windows needs to know theres a hard drive there.
As for formatting and/or partitioning, I have no idea how to do either.
