Logitech Z-680 - White noises

When my Logitech Z-680 speakers are powered, but no sound is playing, I get a bit of hissing from all the speakers, especially from the front speaker and the two rear speakers. The subwooofer also rumbles a bit. Is this normal?

It does not affect the actual sound at all though, and it ain't really a problem, but I'm a bit curious.

I know the system is known for hissing, but I have the v.1.1.2 control pod.

Also, I have all the speakers pretty close to myself, how far should they be placed from me for optimal sound?

I have the Audigy 2 ZS sound card and connect the speakers to it by the three analogue cables, using direct 6 channel input.

Could better cables reduce the hissing?

the white noise is typically a center channel problem...as far as distance goes, for a surround sound system, they should be at LEAST several feet away from you. Also, you might want to replace all the standard wires with 16 gauge home audio wires, this will increase the clarity of the speakers.
