CMOS Locked up

My son has a Gigabyte motherboard and is running XP Pro. When he goes into the Bios everything seems to be locked up so he can't change anything, even the time. His computer seems to be working fine and he doesn't know how long it's been like this.

Welcome to TechIMO!!

Usually you highlight the option you want to modify in the BIOS and then use page up or down to edit stuff.

What exactly is the process he is doing?

Is he using a USB keyboard? Try pluggin in a PS/2 if he isn't and see if you can change stuff then. Be sure to enable USB keyboard support if you haven't already.

My son and I are both very handy with computers, even build them as a hobby. It's not that he wants to do anything right now, it's that he realizes he wouldn't be able to change anything if he needed to. He does have a USB keyboard so will mention this to him to try.

I'd like to thank you two guys who replied to my post. I just talked to my son and he fiddled around with his PC and discovered the problem. He has probably had it for quite a while but in everyday use it wasn't evident. Anyhow his teenaged daughter must have changed the boot up to selective because changing that back solved the problem. This really irritates him, you have your computer and have everything the way you want it and someone changes something.
