nVidia geforce fx 5200 error
I have just got a new agptek GeForce FX5200 video card to play games with. When I first tried it, the game would freeze. I ALSO could still hear the sounds like the game was still going on, but the screen wouldn't move. I then got the driver for my video card, 53.04. After that happened my game still would freeze. Can anyone help me? I have Direct X is 9.0b. I have a pentium 3 733 133mhz processor and windows ME. Also I have 13 GB and 386MB Ram.

Welcome here!
Maybe the power supply to the card is insufficient.

Does it happen with any game? Or a specific one? Can you get the problem to occur each time you launch the game?

It happens to all my games. I can play my games 95% of the time, but sometimes it just crashes. It used to be overheating because the fan cord got in the way of the fan, but i fixed that and it still crashes. I turned down and up all the settings possible, even anti aliasing and aniscopic, but it still crashes. I even turned down and up the game setting and it still turns to a black screen with music in the background. it is not a power problem because i have sufficient enough power going through the system since it does not restart. I heard that changing my agp settings to pci will help relieve the problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am an A+ certified technician, and even i dont know how why so many people are having the same problem with this particular video card. I have checked for any driver problems, and non is found so far. And i went into my bios and my fan is working, and my cpu does not over heat when i max out game performance. I even ran the 3dmark program to test my video and cpu capabilities, and it seems to run fine. There is no overheating, and even if there was, that would mean that it would have crashed with my old ati rage 32mb video card, but i have never had it crash one time with that old video card. My friend saw a post online about how turning agp to pci will fix the problem. Do you know of any software program that allows the agp to turn into pci?

As I said above, it very probably is a power supply problem. Older mainboards do not supply enough (stable) juice to the AGP card. GeForces are power hungry, the 5200 is no exception.

This probaly isn't the problem but aren't those newest drivers causing peoples fans to die? I have a 5200 and it died and I sent it back. And that was when I installed the newest drivers and it overheated I think. But now I got a 9800 |

If you have at least a 250 watt PSU, it'll work with a 5200, no problem.
ATI drivers leave traces behind too. Try cleaning it out with Nasty File Remover and reinstalling with the newest.

nVidia geforce fx 5200 error
well i put up the power on my power supply, and it still crashes. what is nasty file remover anyways? Oh, and yes, it kills fans, but i think it's just a power problem. Anyways, i hear that if you change the agp settings to pci, you can fix the problem with the video card
