Second HD to RAID port?

Hi all,

I am thinking about getting a second hard drive. My motherboard is the Asus A7V266-E. It has 2 IDE Ultra DMA ports and IDE RAID ports. My 2 regular IDE ports are full. My understanding is that I am able to hook up regular IDE devices to the IDE RAID ports. Is that true?

If it is, how can I do that? How would I configure another HD there? I do not want to do any SCSI/RAID hooking up. I am just wanting to add another HD without removing any other drives.

Just let me know what other info you might need to help me along.

As always, I really appreciate the input!! Thanks!

Just think of the RAID ports as extra IDE connectors. They'll only be in RAID if you set them up in an array.

Have you got the manual from asus? if not just dl it and look at it, I am sure it tells you just what to do....or else probably when you hook the drive to the raid port, when you boot there will be something you can press to enter the raid bios....there you will see the settings etc..there is probably a setting for "single drive" or something like that.

Send a message via AIM to Martoch
Ditto what they said...plus make sure your RAID ports are enabled in the BIOS.

Should be very easy to do.
