Building a computer

I am going to attempt to build my own computer (with a little help from my nephew). I am looking for suggestions on which motherboard/processors and any other equipment I might need for my purposes.

I will be using the computer for mainly transferring my VHS and HI-8 home videos to DVD as well as you basic email/internet using a high speed connection. (so of course, i need a DVD burner!)

Any suggestions? I am considering the A64 3000+ chipset.

Thanks!

If all you are gonna do is burn DVDs and surf the net, it seems like a 64 bit processor would be overkill, and a waste of money.

i would agree with bingo . no need for a A64 for that kinda use . you will spend alot of money for alot of horsepower you won't be useing .

also it helps if you give a budget . people are really good at spending other peoples money if ya know what i mean .

you also need a card with video in, either the graphics card itself or a pci card.

Just basic internet and email and some DVD burning, I would say for processor a 1800+ or 2500+ for what you're doing I don't think you even need a 2500+

ya if your not gaming just get a mobo with onboard video . get a capture card , xp2500 1 gig of ram ( if you are running win 2k or win xp ) otherwise get 512 . and you can now find 8x dvd dual format burners for 100$ or less after rebate easy , so for about 5-600$ you can get the job done nicely .
