XBOX LIVE through router

The children recieved xbox live for Christmas. So now I have to drop every thing to connect it. I have two ports left on the router but I don't have a cable to connect to the xbox.
The question is... If I unplug the cable that goes to one of the 'puters and plug it into the xbox will the ip adress be the same on the 'puter when I plug it back in? Or am I going to have to redo the network every time? Because I am running ZA firewall.
You know these guys don't want to wait for the store to open tomorow when I can just buy one!

Thanks,
These guys have been bugin' me to hook it up since it was unwraped at sunrise! But I didn't want to have to redo the 'puter and za again. I forget where I put some instructions and then it takes a long time to figure it out ( or spark my memory!). We'll get a cable tomorow.

Send a message via AIM to TeRG
you could set the xbox on DMZ and assign the IP via mac addy..thatis, if your router can support that

Have you tried to use XBL without disabling any ports? I didn't have to open any ports on my Linksys BEFW11S4 to get XBL to work. Just a thought.

If you plug your computer back in before the DHCP lease expires you should still keep the same IP.

DMZ means demilitarized zone.

Basically it opens all the ports on that specific ip (xbox) so that you don't have any problems relating to ports etc.

Ok,
Thanks on the dmz thing, sounds like too much tinkering for that.
Ok, now what is the DHCP lease and how do I know when it expires?

DHCP is the amount of time the network card will "own" the given IP address. Halfway to the end of that time, the client will normally try to renew the lease again.

On W2K/XP, you can see the lease time by running ipconfig /all in a Command Prompt window.

So the lease shouldn't expire within a few hours if I reconnect the pc.
