Games make my computer restart!

My buddy just got Jedi Academy and every time he tries to play the game has an error and his computer restarts. He can get into the menus and whatnot but once the actual game starts it says any unsaved data will be lost and reboots his PC.

It also does the same thing with Midnight Club 2.

He has switched out the video card with a PCI version of the same card and he has the same problems.

Here are his specs.

P4 2.6 800mhz fsb
Asus P4P800 Deluxe MB
512 DDR 400 dual channel Corsair
Radeon 9100 Pro AGP (and PCI)
and he has installed the latest drivers from ATI

Anyone know what the problem is? I think it's something to do with the 9100.

No, this problem I am certain is related to card because it would not play Midnight Club or War Craft w/o throwing an error message that basically said "windows thinks the problem is the 9100 card". The problem with MC and Warcraft was fixed by getting the recent drivers from ATI's website.

Have you tried this card in a different system?

I have two cards that I have tried on MC and Warcraft. They both are 9100 pro's only one is AGP and the other is PCI. They both had the same problem. The AGP has functioned fine in another system and the PCI works fine but never gets graphically tested (P3 system). The other system that this card(AGP) was in a Celeron and did not have the Dual Channel memory like this current system.

You might try going into the driver setting for the Video card,(assuming they are the latest like you mentioned) and turn off the "VPU recover" feature.

Could be your power supply is weak or failing. They sometimes do cr@p out on you. Also run memtest86 to check for errors in your RAM

it could be that he has a generally "unstable" system. when i oc mine to a point where it fails prime95, i am unable to play jedi academy without my pc displaying an error message and my having to restart the system.

could be that one of his components are failing.

another possibility could be his power supply.
