agp driver and win98

I have an ecs l7s7a2 motherboard and am running win98 fe. After i install the agp driver (both the one that came with the mobo and the updated one) the next time windows starts, it says windows protection error. Please restart your computer. It does not do this if i boot into safe mode, however. ANy ideas would be appreciated. Thank you and merry christmas.

I had this with a way ancient SiS chipset board yesterday (a PC-Chips M590, using the 5591 chipset). The 1.17 driver release seems to be b0rked in that regard.

Installing the AGP driver manually (from Device Manager, PCI-to-PCI bridge device, Update driver) worked fine though.

Epilogue: Driver release 1.17 is no longer advertized for W98, only W98SE. Seems we are supposed to use the previous release, 1.16a.
